What we do
I've taken a lot of grief over the years about naming my studio The Collective, not realizing I'd set myself up for endless Star Trek jokes. The name alludes to a collective of different skills used to create original and inspired designs. From precision machining to fabrication, blacksmithing, welding, sheet metal work, woodworking and even enameling, there is a lot going on in one studio.
An AAS degree in Machine Shop Technology and years spent machining high-tolerance parts put me on the path to discovering other aspects of metalworking. Machining opened the door to metals fabrication and artist blacksmithing, eventually leading me to start my own studio. Here I can create pieces that are dimensionally accurate to within thousandths of an inch, or don't have to be constrained by the demands of tolerances and blueprints at all.
The Collective's work focuses on, but isn't limited to the curvilinear forms of Art Nouveau, the geometric brilliance of the Art Deco style, and the energy borne of Modernism and its revolutionary principles.
Have a project that needs that custom touch? We work in a wide variety of disciplines - from the beginning concept to design, production, and installation.
